Why the numbers matter
A position fix every 40 ms — fine enough to resolve braking points and apex speed, not just lap totals.
Accelerometer and gyroscope capture lateral and longitudinal G plus yaw, pitch and roll — the full dynamic state of the car.
GPS, IMU and CAN are recorded together on one device, so RPM, boost and brake line up with position on the same timeline.
Your phone can time a lap. It can't explain one.
Free laptimer apps are a fine start. But finding the next second means knowing what the car was doing at every metre — and that data never reaches your phone on its own.
