How we use cookies and browser local storage on dashcan.eu — and how we keep non-essential cookies switched off until you say yes.
A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser. We also use your browser's local storage, which works in a similar way but is never sent automatically to a server. We use both for two very different reasons: to make the site work (signing you in, remembering your cart) and, only with your permission, to understand how the site is used.
We hard-gate every non-essential cookie. This means Google Analytics is not loaded at all until you click Accept in our cookie banner. No analytics cookie is written, and no analytics script is downloaded, while your choice is "reject" or undecided. Strictly necessary cookies are always on because the site cannot function without them — they do not require consent under the ePrivacy rules.
These first-party items are required to deliver the service you explicitly request — for example, keeping you signed in. They cannot be switched off.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Type | Expiry |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| access_token | DashCAN | Keeps you signed in | First-party, httpOnly cookie | 15 minutes |
| refresh_token | DashCAN | Renews your session | First-party, httpOnly cookie | 7 days |
| auth_session | DashCAN | Holds your signed-in user info | First-party, JS-readable cookie | 7 days |
In addition, two things are stored in your browser's localStorage (first-party), not in cookies:
These cookies help us measure how the site is used so we can improve it. They are set only once you accept in the banner, and never before.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Type | Expiry |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Distinguishes users | First-party analytics cookie | ~2 years | |
| _ga_<container-id> | Session state | First-party analytics cookie | ~2 years |

When you pay, checkout is handled on Stripe's hosted page at checkout.stripe.com. Stripe sets its own cookies there to process your payment and prevent fraud. Those cookies are set by Stripe on its own domain and are governed by Stripe's policies, not ours.
When you first visit, our banner lets you accept or reject non-essential (analytics) cookies. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time:
